Dr. Barry C. Black is the first African-American and the first military chaplain to serve as US Senate Chaplain. He elected as the 62nd chaplain in 2003. Previously, he served more than 27 years as a Navy Chaplain, ending his Navy career as the Chief of Navy Chaplains. Dr. Black has written two books, From the Hood to the Hill and The Blessing of Adversity. Dr. Black and his wife, Brenda, have three adult sons: Barry II, Brendan, and Bradford.
